Have you always wondered how your digestive system works?? Well, here you will find out all about it!!

The Digestive System The digestive system is a group of organs working together to digest food it can be used by the body

About the Digestive System
Here, you will find very interesting information about the amazing digestive system. First, let's give you a brief description on where and how the food travels. Firstly, the food goes through the mouth. In your mouth, your teeth chew the food. This is called the mechanical digestion, chewing and grinding the food. There are salivary glands which make saliva. The tongue helps to push back the food into the esophagus. In the esophagus, the muscles squeeze the food down like how you milk a cow. When it finally goes to the stomach, your stomach's job is to squeeze the food futher. There, mechanical digestion is done, and then tiny glands in your stomach makes acid. Acid Acid is really important to in the process of digestion. The stomach's acid helps kill the bacteria you might swallow. Later on, your food is then reduced to a watery-soupy mixture called chyme. After the stomach , the food enters the duodenumThere, this is the important part for the fat A green liquid called bile bile and helps to divide up all the fats into a liquid. It is then slowly released in the small intestines where it thoroughly gets mixed with digestive fluids. In the small intestine, there are these substances called villi. Villi absorb all the nutrients from the food that you eat! The nutrients then are passed on to the bloodstream. After all the good nutrients have been absorbed into the bloodstream, the food now goes into the large intestine. The undigested liquid food goes in. In the large intestine all the liquid gets absorbed by the large intestine so it becomes a solid called feces or stool. Finally the feces enter the rectum. It holds the feces until it can be expelled from the body. Next the feces finally exit through the anus and you know the rest of the story!

The Differrent Types of Nutrients
There are three types of nutrients. Protein, fat, and carbohydrate. Protein usually comes from animals and plants. Bean is the only vegetable will proteins in it. In foods like meat, they all have proteins. Fat is bad for our health if we eat too much food with fat. Fat usually comes from oil foods, like bacons and hotdogs. Carbohydrate is the last nutrient. It comes from the food like grain, bread, and foods made from grains.

> The Form Of A Teeth
  • Remember when your food enters your mouth, the food gets smashed by the teeth? Today I will tell you how they do it. There are four types of teeth. Molars, premolars, incisors, and canines. The molar is at the back of your mouth. It is used to grind food. The premolars are perfect for mashing food. The incisors and the cannines are for shredding food. That is why the mouth does the mechanical digestion.

  • Stomach
  • Small intestine
  • Large intestine
  • Liver - A large reddish brown organ makes the bile.
  • Gallbladder
  • Pancreas-The pancreas makes a juice that goes into the small intestine. The juice has digestive enzymes and bicarbonate that neutralizes the acid in chyme. If there was no bicarbonate, the acids would destroy the lining of the intestines and would stop enzymes from doing their jobs.
  • Enamel - the outlayer of the teeth that will protect the inside of the teeth.
  • Rectum
  • Duodenum
  • Salivery gland
  • Enzyme - Enzymes are used to shorten the long chains of amino acids into shorter ones, so that the amino acids are short enough to pass thorugh the bloodstream.

Fun Facts
  • Digestive tracts are about 9 m long!!
  • The scientific term for chewing is mastipation!
  • If you streach your small intestine out it would be about 6 m!
  • Mucus coats on the inside of your stomach!
  • You feel hungry because your body recives signals that your cells need energy!
  • When you spread out your small intestine, it can larger then a tennis court!
  • Your small intestine is 7.5 meter long! Almost 9/7 of your total of the tract length

Functions Of The Body System-:
  • Mouth - A part of the digestive system that use mechanical digestive functions that help mash the food.
  • Esophagus- Leads the mechanical digested food to the stomach.
  • Stomach - An organ attached to the lower part of the esophageus, which uses physical functions that squeeze food to the small intestines.
  • Small Intestines - A 9meter long tube leading to the large intestine, which has finger like villi.
  • Villi - Finger like villi that collect mostly all nutrients in the digestive system that flow through the blood stream.
  • Large Intestine - Were the undigested food is stored until it leaves the body to the anus. It also absorbs the left over water.

Dr. Kay Lynn Says:
The digestive system is important because it helps you to digest food. The whole process begins with your teeth and ends in the rear end. Did you know that a small hair like villi is in you and it's helping you suck that fats, cholestrol, etc. out of all tat food you just ate? Did you also know that the liver creates bile a then it sends it to the gall bladder? Here are links to some movies on brainpop: teeth, digestive system.
A problems you can get are :

Heart burn:
Is where the flow of the chyme in the stomach goes up the esophagus which
causes you to feel pain in your chest. This is called heart burn.

Constipation and Diarrhea:
You will get Constipation if your body doesn't have enough fiber, water, and exercise
which causes the large intestine to become dry. When a part of your intestine becomes dry, you will get diarrhea. You get diarrhea
if a part of your intestine get too watery or there are a lot of movements. Diarrhea can usually cause dehydration and is very
dangerous for babies and small children.

Colon Cancer:

This disease is deadly serious. Unfortunately it could lead to death, yes this is how serious it is. The colon is large part of the large intestines. When colon cells divides uncontrollably, a tumor could form or will form. And as you know tumors are horrible, they can damage a lot and in this case it disrupts the normal function of the organs. Tumor cells can break up and cause damage to other parts of the body, however, it can be treated if detected early like most tumors. Colon cancer is a dangerous disease when the digestive system has some problems.

Dr. Matilda adds in...

Colon Cancer is a life threatening disease. It is formed in the large intestine by colon cells
being divided. That then turns the cells into a tumor. If the tumors are not detected early
the tumor can spread in other organs.

Gatric Ulcer:

Is caused by bacteria in the body if you want to make this worse do smoke, drink, have a bad fat diet,
and eating/drinking to much caffeine.

This is all thanks to your digestive system. If you don’t keep your system healthy, its possible you wont be able to eat most of the things you can get problems.

These problems could be colon cancer, Constipation and Diarrhea.
